Part 2: I thought we’d return to the website in 2015, but it took longer than that so we’ll update the story in summer of 2016. We have moved to California, found jobs and bought a house. It is a California style craftsman bungalow from 1924. We’ve spent lots of time working with the building team updating it from a messy remodel in the 70s (as well is kicking out some unwanted animal guests.) We haven’t moved in quite yet, but we’ve been promised it’ll be done by the end of July.
Th best part? Guest house! We’ve taken this art of the project on ourselves and have gotten to try out tons of different DIY (with varying degrees of success) 😉
Take a look at the house galleries and we hope you’ll love it as much as we do.
The next part of the story: Move in and Backyard
Jenn and Nils met on the Savignyplatz. Well, more precisely, they were introduced to each other through match.de, but their first meeting was on that corner in Berlin. Jenn was late, but Nils waited. She picked that place because she didn’t want to invite him to her favorite cafe down the street in case he was a nut.
She took one look at him and they went to that cafe, the Schwarzes Cafe. It was summer and they sat in the tiny balcony for two. They chatted and sipped. Jenn knew it was a good sign when she left her purse on the table to go to the bathroom and it was still there when she got back. Jenn flirted and Nils didn’t notice.
Two dates later, Nils hadn’t kissed her yet, so she told the German boyfriend of her roommate, ‘I don’t think he likes me’. He responded, ‘Did he pay?’…..why yes he did. ‘He likes you.’ That night the couple exchanged their first kiss. Fireworks went off and they both knew this was something special. Throughout the next years they discovered a shared love of travel, beer and shopping deals. They experienced profound joy with the birth of their daughter. They shared their families, their home, their laughter and tears.
Six years after that first kiss, Nils sat with Jenn by the sea in Sardinia and said ‘The first six years of our life together have been wonderful; I would like to have many more. Will you marry me?’ Shocked, she couldn’t believe he surprised her so completely. She cried. Then she said ‘YES’!
In front of friends and family on both July 4th & August 3rd, 2014 Nils and Jenn both said ‘YES’ along with their daughter Lilly and are now the family Kneipp (one syllable!). Stay tuned for the next part of the story in 2015…..
